KILLER CONFESSIONS

Hello,
My name is Trevor Lowthers. This website is essentially an online book proposal for my completed fictional work,
Killer Confessions.

This is a book about a serial killer who wants to publish his memoirs painfully detailing his crimes and reasons for past atrocities. His style reads more like a psychopath self-help book than a confessional, but he does show promise. He is able to lure a beautiful, eager publisher by the name of Lauren to his prison. She will help with his increasingly difficult task of finishing the perfect manuscript. Her quest for a Best Seller gets her deeply involved with a past and future she never could have anticipated.

It offers a complete view of a vicious, calculative murderer who has real emotions and future considerations. He laughs, cries, loves, is loved, and of course has an odd sense of humor to match an equally misdirected value system. He is the type of serial murderer who would jokingly say, "I'd kill not to be a psychopath!"

An original, first person narrative makes the portrayal of this serial killer exceptional in an understated and non-exploitative manner. Yet it depicts a noir and gruesome atmosphere where we catch whiffs of dementia that make sewers smell like roses. However, shrouded within the seemingly depraved confessions of a helpless, imprisoned murderer, things are not always as they seem.

          My goal in
Killer Confessions is to take away the premise of investigation almost entirely. The reader isn't led around by the perfect intuition of an excessively brilliant criminologist. The overuse of this "detection principle" is the major flaw indigenous to most thrillers. It analyzes from afar, thus avoiding the killer's own perspective on his depraved indifference. The focus of this book remains on the killer and his intentions. I tackle it head on simply to be different and because I feel the market will accept it favorably.

This genre is well established with writers like Jeffery Deaver and Thomas Harris. However, while they use criminologist
Lincoln Rhyme or FBI agents Will Graham or Clarice Starling respectively, I purposely deviate from this formula. I am devoted to the psyche of the killer, not the genius of the detectives. Other examples are James Patterson's Alex Cross, Rex Miller using Jack Eichard, and more recently, Mary Willis Walker's protagonist Molly Cates.
I have been writing and publishing since the mid-nineties after graduating with a B.A., English from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. My work has appeared in local papers such as
The Southender and The Bedford News. This is the first novel I've tried to get published. I will continue to work on my second while you, hopefully, find time to consider the outline, chapter synopsis, and sample chapters I've also included with this proposal. The novel is 155,000 words and awaiting your request.

Sincerely,

Trevor Lowthers
